Kindle Serials: Amazon Announces Launch Of New, Episodic Publishing Format

Following the new roll out of new Kindle devices, Amazon has announced Kindle Serials, which will allow authors to publish books as installments much like classic serial novels such as Charles Dickens.

Customers will be able to purchase novels upfront and get the first chapter, with additional chapters added as free automatic updates as soon as they are published by the author. Readers will also be able to provide direct feedback to authors.

The new Kindle Serial program launches on Kindle with a handful of titles, priced at $1.99 each. Classic serial stories such as Oliver Twist will be available for free.

The Kindle Serials program will be an extension of Amazon’s KDP eBook program, so authors publishing on Kindle Serials will to maintain their copyright and the ability to receive the KDP 70% royalty option.

Does this excite you, is it something you’ll consider trying out?
