Editing

Turn your words into a crafted masterpiece. Make sure you've had professional, objective eyes look over your manuscript before you publish to avoid scathing reviews. Our editors will work with you to make your Pulitzer shine!

You have two editing options to choose from.

Standard edit: this is a one-pass process where your editor will edit your work for grammar, spelling, punctuation and voice.

Comprehensive edit: this is a two-pass process where your editor will cover all aspects included in the standard edit PLUS structure, point of view, message consistency and tone. This also includes additional time for answering questions and a Skype call with your editor.

You can add editing to your chosen package by selecting it on your form.

Editing is billed separately.

How the Process Works

Step 1

Once you've decided on which package you’d like, click the green button and you'll be prompted to complete the project form. The form will ask you to complete the following:

• Select which book size you would like, either 5"x 8" or 5.83 x 8.27"/A5 or 5.5"x 8.5" or 6"x 9". These are the most popular trade-book sizes for maximum compatibility across the publishing industry.

• Enter your book description, which may be used on your back cover and/or for reference purposes.

• List any cover ideas you may have. If you don't have any, don't worry because our designers will come up with something magical. For marketing reasons it's often better if our designers are not limited.

• Upload your final manuscript file, which should include your extra pages such as 'About the Author' and 'Acknowledgements'. Only upload once these extra pages are included and you've followed our manuscript preparation checklist.

• Enter your book information such as title, subtitle (optional), author name, website URL and any other text for the cover.

• Choose whether you want to add editing to your project, if your manuscript has not been edited. This will be added to your package invoice and will be the first task to commence.

Step 2

Once you have submitted your form, you'll be prompted to step 2 of 2 to complete your order. You'll be shown a thank you screen to confirm your order was successful and a purchase receipt will be emailed to you.

Step 3

Following your order confirmation, you'll receive a welcome email that includes a link to to a welcome information page detailing the book creation process with a video from Anthony outlining the process. You'll also receive your Marketing & Sales Toolkit link.

If you ordered the Bestseller Package you'll receive a second email containing information about your new Self-publishing Lab membership.

We will be in touch to confirm your project start and receive an project materials from you required to begin your project. Please allow sufficient time for project completion as you'll be required to review and approve project concepts.

FAQs

Q. What type of payment do you accept?

A. Payments are accepted via PayPal, credit card or bank transfer (EFT). Payments for packages are required to book in your project. A PayPal invoice will be sent via email with the details.

Q. Why is editing not included in the packages?

A. Editing is not included because some people have already had their writing edited or proofread and just want the rest of the publishing tasks as they move forward. This way we simply have it as an optional add-on for those that want editing.

Q. How many changes can I make to the typesetting/print layout?

A. Up to two rounds of revision are available, which include layout/style adjustments. This does not include significant editorial or content changes as these should have been addressed in a proper edit.

Q. Do you offer rush fees?

A. No. We don't offer rush fees or time frames. The book-publishing process is a layered one that needs everyone's considered attention.

Q. How long does a book cover design take?

A. It takes from 5 to 7 business days to receive your first cover-design drafts for review. You'll need to allow time for review and revisions.

Q. What files do you accept?

A. We accept Microsoft Word files including .docx, .doc and .rtf. Make sure your manuscript is free of comments and track changes. Paragraph text should be consistent with chapter or section headings using Microsoft Word's default heading styles. Please refer to our manuscript preparation checklist.

Q. How long will typesetting take?

A. This depends on the size and complexity of your book. Generally most books take between 7 to 10 business days for typesetting to be completed. You will need to factor in review time for yourself as well and it's important not to rush the process.

Q. What does the publishing POD set-up involve?

A. This is where you'll get access to private training videos and support for publishing your book via print on demand and Amazon Kindle, removing guesswork and mistakes you may make on your own.
